Sorry for such a long delay in updating any information. Almost 2 months. I have been away and still am going through some interesting transitions in my own personal life. In the meantime I have been contributing to the forum. But here is an official posting I want to give on some of the latest in the OOP DVD BIZ. What is hot? V for Vendetta is perhaps the hottest DVD out right now. Both regular and exclusive DVD's are well sought after by both collector's and movie lovers. If you have missed it in the theaters, check it out on DVD. It remains my personal favorite this year. There have been some complaints about the double disc set in regards to the content. That they are lame or unneccesary, not to mention short and perhaps shallow. Furthermore, it is questionable whether they could have been placed on a single disc or not. Either way, the V for Vendetta (Widescreen Two-Disc Special Edition) is the number one selling disc on Amazon as of this writing. The studio release also includes the standard Widescreen Edition and a Full Screen Edition, both are single discs. In addition to the 2-disc set, there is also a special Boxed Set edition from Best Buy. It is an exclusive set that comes with the 2-disc set, as well as a small replica of the Guy Fawkes mask, and 4 postcard replicas of the movie posters. An attractive set that are getting collector's attention, which, in fact, on the best buy website, it is now officially "sold out". A quick sell out considering its release was last Tuesday (August 1), and here I am writing less than a week afterwards. So this set appears to be hot at the moment. How many were produced is difficult to tell. Many are reporting each store having as many as 20 or 30. But that may dry up sooner than some would hope. Check out eBay for updated listings. Amazon does not have a listing for this special version, however, some are selling under the 2-disc version. Another variant is from Target. This is the 2-disc version which features a lenticular cover. Remember Batman Begins? Well in similar vain, this comes with a 64-page version of the comic book as well. This edition seems to be less available on eBay compared to the BB edition, however, it is not demanding the same interest either. It does not appear you can buy this edition online, so best bet is to check your local Target stores. Otherwise you might have to shill out an extra 10 dollars more than the retail price to get a copy. A final and, perhaps, more obscure edition of the V for Vendetta collectibles is released exclusive to the Canadian online seller Futureshop. With this release is the 2-disc set featured in a "steelbook", which is essentially a casing for the DVD set in steel with an etched image of the cover art. I dont believe any other special features or items come with this set aside from it coming in a nicer case. The company Futureshop, unfortunately, will not ship outside of Canada and therefore more difficult to obtain. There is only one copy available on eBay here as of this writing. I do not know which is the best version to grab or which is more limited than the other. The BB edition seems the most popular and available, but still within its limitations to create desirability. As I said, V for Vendetta is my favorite movie of the year so far and with a movie as good as this, it is worth having a cool version of it, no matter which you choose.
