Grab them Now!
Walt Disney is setting up to put Little Mermaid and Peter Pan, and their straight-to-video cohorts back into the vault at the end of January. Now is the time to grab them while you can! Little Mermaid is perhaps one of Disney's all-time favorite title from the fans and will certainly be one that collectors will eventually want to get. It is the Platinum Edition release, which is the follow-up to their original Limited Edition release. Once these go into the vault, Disney usually will wait 7 years before another release. It will probably be safe to say that the next version will be a Blu-ray version or one of each, SD and BD. In addition is Little Mermaid II and Ariel's Beginning. Even more worthwhile is the boxed set featuring all 3 titles which was just released this past Christmas, so these may actually be more limited than the single releases.
Second is Peter Pan. This is an earlier classic film with the ever-adored character Tinkerbell. Peter Pan is certainly one of the favorites among Disney film fans and will certainly be snapped up quickly. Similarly, this was the follow-up to the original release of the Limited Edition back in 1999. There is also Peter Pan 2: Return to Neverland, a straight to video effort as well the most recent release Tinkerbell, which will have an extremely limited release as it just cam out this past October, about a month after Sleeping Beauty Platinum Edition (on BD as well). Furthermore, these 3 were released, like Little Mermaid, in a 3-movie boxed set this past Christmas, so this should be equally limited as the Little Mermaid set.
Both, the original Little Mermaid and Peter Pan issues were Limited Editions that also came in their first boxed set, The Disney Anthology.
Like all Disney titles, they are prone to bootlegging and at times subject to over production for the collector to feel they have any value or potential to them. It might be said that they age like wine. They are not hot property as soon as they are discontinued, but over a period of time, they start to appreciate. Titles like Beauty and the Beast are promising when they are the authentic version and not a cheap port.
So here is the list of titles that are headed back into the vault at the end of the month:
Also, if you are looking for variants, there are available from Amazon.Canada, The Little Mermaid, Little Mermaid II, Peter Pan and Return to Neverland French versions. These are only sold on the Canada site and not on the US, but they are Region 1 editions. Disney, however, did not make any Spanish versions like El Rey Leon (The Lion King).
So grab these titles while they are still available. Always good sellers, always in demand. Also remember that when you click through these links and make purchases (or add to cart for a later date), you help support our site! Thanks again.
