Best Deals on the Net
Shopping around for OOP DVD's can be a time-consuming affair. Especially if you want a good deal. Good deals are not always just the cheapest price, but sometimes you have to make sure the seller is reputable, the shipping is not too costly and it seems the item is readily available. So I decided to compile a short list of some of the hottest factory sealed OOP DVD's out with some of the best prices around.
Mario Bava's Baron Blood (brand new, factory sealed).
These Bava titles have become pretty hot and are all asking for prices above 40 dollars for used ones. Sealed copies are becoming increasingly difficult to find. This title at 60 brand new (plus 6 dollars to ship) is an excellent price considering there are no new versions available on Amazon, or half.com.
Dario Argento's Suspiria (3-Disc Limited Edition). This set has recently sold out, after some 60,000 copies were made. Still relatively cheap in some instances, and you may still be able to find it at a store,
however, expect to pay full price for a new one. There are two good prices I have found: one on eBay and one on Amazon. This seller on eBay, even with shipping, comes to around 18 dollars, which is a pretty good price for a 3-disc set limited edition. Although many of these big sellers are mindless pedlers of things they know nothing of, there is still a 98% chance you will get your item.
Rebecca (Criterion Collection).Where do you find such a movie at a reasonable price? Is there such a thing at the moment? It is perhaps one of the hottest DVDs out there right now.
Amazon sellers are even asking over 100 for used copies! I cant think of a better deal right now than this one being auctioned for a factory sealed copy. Why so cheap? Yes, there is a catch. Of course! There is a hole punch in the UPC symbol. Does this hinder the price? More than likely. But its is a brand new copy. The auctions are finicky. You may be lucky and get away with a brand new copy for 65 dollars as I have seen many times. But others are more dead set on getting a perfect edition and will pay over 100 for a new copy (which I have also seen). If a hole punch is not your deal, be patient, but realistic and you will get your copy. Otherwise, this is the best deal out there. And there are 10 copies! Shipping is 4 bucks.
The Harder They Come (Criterion Collection). Yes, the Criterion Collection is always on someones wanted list, whether in-print, or out of print.
This DVD is relatively cheap as it just recently began to be sold exclusively through third party sellers. The best deal that I could find on this item is actually right here in the RareOOP Marketplace. There are not that many copies out there, despite how long we all knew it was out of print. If you do a search on eBay, Amazon and other smaller venues, you will see there are about 20-30 total copies being offered. I know you are getting a great service from here because I personally know the seller. :P heh...
Supergirl (2-disc Limited Edition).
This is from Anchor Bay which released the director's cut. It has since been been difficult to find. The regular edition has also gone out of print, making this version even more desirable. It may be argulable if you get this version, or one from Amazon at 92 dollars. The shipping cost of either would make it even, and both track records are decent. Both are small sellers, yet, substantial enough where they have established some credibility.
Other really hot DVD's out there right now is G. I. Joe (Season One Part One). The prices are too uncertain to say where the best deal is coming from, but I see alot of activity in that area. Another set which seems high in demand on both eBay and Amazon is Transformers Boxed Sets.
Anyway, if anyone purchases any of these, please let us know in the forum how your experiences were regarding the transactions.
